Dandruff is one of the most common scalp complaints in India — and also one of the most misunderstood. Many people reach for chemical anti-dandruff shampoos that strip the scalp, only to find the flakes return within days. Ayurveda offers a different approach: address the root imbalance, not just the symptom.
Why Does Dandruff Happen? The Ayurvedic View
In Ayurvedic terms, dandruff is typically related to a Vata–Kapha imbalance on the scalp. Excess Vata causes dryness and flaking, while Kapha causes oiliness, buildup, and itching. Factors like stress, irregular eating, excess oil accumulation, and improper cleansing all aggravate this imbalance.
Modern triggers align with this view: fungal overgrowth (worsened by oil buildup and heat), scalp dryness, and hard water are all common causes across India.
The 3-Step Ayurvedic Anti-Dandruff Routine
This routine is designed to balance the scalp rather than strip it. Use it twice a week on hair-wash days.
Step 1: Pre-Wash Scalp Prep with Keshkirti Lotion
Keshkirti Lotion is an Ayurvedic pre-wash scalp formulation. Apply it directly to the scalp 30–60 minutes before your hair wash. Massage gently in circular motions. Leave it in, then move to Step 2.
Step 2: Dandruffend Herbal Scalp Pack
Dandruffend Powder is a traditional Ayurvedic herbal scalp pack. Mix it with water (or curd) to form a paste. Apply on the scalp, leave for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. This herbal pack supports scalp balance and helps address buildup.
Step 3: Cleanse with Tanvi Antidandruff Hair Wash Cleanser
After rinsing the pack, use Tanvi Antidandruff Hair Wash Cleanser as your shampoo. This SLS-free Ayurvedic herbal cleanser removes residue without harsh stripping. Use twice weekly as part of this routine.
Diet & Lifestyle Tips for a Healthier Scalp
- Reduce excess fried, spicy, and processed foods — these aggravate Pitta and Kapha
- Include bitter greens, seasonal vegetables, and warm water with meals
- Manage stress — a major trigger for scalp imbalance
- Sleep on time — late nights disturb Vata and affect hair health
